Where to dispose of asbestos in Toowoomba

Where to dispose of asbestos in Toowoomba: the Wellcamp facility, its conditions and what to ask first. Call (07) 3185 2323 for help with larger loads.

If you are asking where to dispose of asbestos in Toowoomba, the main option for households is the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility at 270 O'Mara Road, Wellcamp. Toowoomba Regional Council runs it. It takes domestic asbestos only, and there are conditions you need to meet before you turn up.

This guide sits under our wider asbestos disposal in Toowoomba overview.

The Wellcamp facility

The conditions the council lists are simple but strict.

  • Address: 270 O'Mara Road, Wellcamp QLD 4350.
  • Who it is for: households. Commercial asbestos is not accepted.
  • How much: up to 175 kg per load.
  • How it arrives: wrapped appropriately. Our guide on how to wrap and transport asbestos covers what that means.
  • Unloading: staff will not help you unload, so plan for that.

Opening hours

The facility is open 7am to 5pm on weekdays and 8am to 5pm on weekends. It is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day. Hours can change, so confirm them when you call.

Call before you go

The council's phone number is 131 872. Ring before you load the trailer.

A national directory of asbestos disposal sites lists this facility as needing prior notification, for domestic customers only, with proof of residence. The council's own page does not mention booking. Because the two sources differ, the safest move is to ask the council directly what it wants from you on the day.

Fees

A fee applies to asbestos at the facility. The council's page does not give an amount, so we are not going to guess one. Ask the council for the current fee when you call, and ask whether anything extra applies if a load is not packaged correctly.

A change starting on 1 November 2026

The council has said that from 1 November 2026, tipper trucks and trailers cannot unload onto the residual tipping floor at Wellcamp. If you are towing a trailer, ask when you call how this affects an asbestos drop-off and where you should unload.

What the facility does not take

Commercial asbestos is not accepted at Wellcamp. That includes loads from tradies and builders working on a job. Their obligations are different, and we explain them in asbestos waste rules for businesses and builders.

Do not assume other council tips will take asbestos. Ask the council first, and never leave asbestos at a site that has not agreed to take it.

If your property is outside the Toowoomba council area

Gatton sits in the Lockyer Valley Regional Council area, not Toowoomba Regional Council. Its disposal arrangements, limits and fees are set by that council, so contact them directly. Our page on asbestos removal in Gatton has more on working in that area.

When it is easier to let us do it

Some jobs are not worth the drive and the risk. Maybe the load is bigger than 175 kg, or you are not sure the material is bonded, or you do not have a way to move it safely. Disposal and waste transport are part of our service, so you can hand the whole job over.

Rules and facility conditions change. Check the current requirements at asbestos.qld.gov.au and with the council before you travel.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I take asbestos to Wellcamp on a Sunday?

The council lists weekend hours of 8am to 5pm. Confirm with the council on 131 872 before you go, because opening days around public holidays can change.

Will tip staff help me unload asbestos?

No. The council says staff will not help unload. Bring someone to help, and wear the right protective gear when you handle the packages.

What if I have more than 175 kg of asbestos?

The Wellcamp limit is 175 kg per load. A bigger job usually needs a licensed removalist and a different disposal plan. Call us and we can talk through the options.

Can I use the Toowoomba tip for asbestos from a Gatton property?

Gatton is in the Lockyer Valley council area, which is a different council with its own rules. Do not assume the Toowoomba facility will take it. Check with both councils before you travel with a load.
