Asbestos removal in Highfields
Class B licensed asbestos removal and testing for Highfields homes, about 15 km from our East Toowoomba base. Call (07) 3185 2323 to talk it through.
We provide asbestos removal in Highfields, the satellite town north of Toowoomba. It is about 15 km by road from our base at 1 Margaret St, East Toowoomba, which is roughly a 17 minute drive.
About Highfields
Highfields has about 8,600 residents and sits inside the Toowoomba Regional Council area. Residential subdivision began in the 1960s and has carried on since. That is a long stretch of building, so the homes in town are likely to range from older houses to much newer ones.
We do not have a confirmed housing age breakdown for Highfields, so we will not guess. The Queensland Government rule of thumb is simple. A home built before 1990 is likely to contain some asbestos. If you are not sure when your house or shed went up, test before you disturb anything.
Common jobs for older homes
Asbestos cement sheeting was commonly used on homes, sheds, carports and fences from the 1940s to the late 1980s. These are the jobs people ask us about:
- Old sheds and garages, covered in our guide to asbestos shed and garage removal.
- Roofing and capping on older homes, outbuildings and carports.
- Eaves, wall sheeting and wet area linings before a renovation.
- Vinyl floor tiles in older kitchens and laundries.
Our general asbestos removal service covers all of these. Our contractors hold a Class B licence for bonded asbestos. A job over 10 m2 of non-friable asbestos needs a licensed business. Friable or fire-damaged material needs a Class A licensed removalist, so call us and we will talk through what to do.
Testing first
If you are about to cut, drill or sand anything in an older Highfields house, asbestos testing comes first. We take a sample and it goes to an accredited lab. We cannot give a turnaround time or fee here, so ask us when you call.
Disposal from Highfields
We could not confirm that any facility in Highfields accepts asbestos. The nearest confirmed option for domestic loads is Toowoomba Regional Council's Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility at 270 O'Mara Road, Wellcamp. It takes wrapped domestic asbestos only, up to 175 kg a visit, and no commercial loads. Call the council on 131 872 first.
If you book us, we wrap, transport and dispose of the waste as part of the job, so you do not have to drive it yourself. Read more about asbestos disposal.
What you get
We prepare the Asbestos Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) and carry $20 million public liability insurance. After licensed work you receive a clearance certificate, based on an inspection by an independent assessor or competent person. We do not inspect our own work.
Rules change. Check the current rules at asbestos.qld.gov.au.
Call us
We are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 5pm. Phone (07) 3185 2323 and tell us what you have, how much of it there is and where it is on the block.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do you service Highfields from Toowoomba?
Yes. Highfields is about 15 km from our East Toowoomba base, so it is a routine trip for us.
Is there an asbestos drop-off in Highfields?
We could not confirm one. The nearest confirmed council option is at Wellcamp, for wrapped domestic loads only, and you should call 131 872 before you go.
My Highfields house was built in the 1980s. Should I worry?
It is worth testing before you renovate. Asbestos products were used until the late 1980s, and the national ban only began on 31 December 2003. A lab test will give you a clear answer.
Do I need a licensed removalist for a small job?
Not always. A homeowner can remove 10 m2 or less of bonded asbestos without a certificate if they follow the safety rules. Over that, you need a certificate or a licensed contractor.
