Asbestos removal across Toowoomba suburbs

Asbestos removal in Newtown, Rangeville, Harristown, Wilsonton and every other Toowoomba suburb. Class B licensed. Call (07) 3185 2323 to book.

We do asbestos removal in every Toowoomba suburb, from Newtown and Rangeville to Wilsonton and Kearneys Spring. Our base is at 1 Margaret St, East Toowoomba, so for most city jobs we are only a short drive away.

Suburbs we work in

You do not need to be in a particular suburb for us to help. These are the ones people most often search for:

  • East Toowoomba, where we are based
  • Newtown and North Toowoomba
  • Rangeville and Mount Lofty
  • Harristown and Wilsonton
  • Centenary Heights
  • Kearneys Spring

If your suburb is not on the list, call anyway. The rules and the process are the same across the whole city.

Why older Toowoomba homes need a check

Toowoomba is known for its preserved Victorian-era buildings and traditional Queenslander homes. Asbestos cement sheeting was commonly used in homes and other structures from the 1940s to the late 1980s. The Queensland Government says homes built before 1990 are likely to contain some.

The 2021 census counted about 5,900 people in East Toowoomba, about 8,700 in Rangeville, about 9,100 in Harristown and about 9,400 in Kearneys Spring. We cannot tell you which suburbs have more fibro than others, because we have not seen reliable suburb by suburb data. The age of your own house is a far better guide than its postcode.

Heritage-listed sites are recorded in East Toowoomba, Rangeville, Harristown, North Toowoomba and Mount Lofty. If you own an older or character home in one of these, test before you renovate, and ask the council what approvals apply.

What we can do for you

Our contractors hold a Class B licence. That covers bonded (non-friable) asbestos such as cement sheeting. If your material is friable, for example crumbling or fire-damaged asbestos, a Class A licensed removalist is needed. Call us and we will talk through the safest way forward.

Where the waste goes

Asbestos waste cannot go in your household bin. Toowoomba Regional Council takes domestic asbestos at the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility, 270 O'Mara Road, Wellcamp. It accepts domestic loads only, up to 175 kg a visit, and it does not take commercial asbestos. Call the council on 131 872 before you go, and ask about the current fee, because we cannot confirm one.

If you hire us, we handle the wrapping and disposal as part of the job. You can read more in our guide on where to dispose of asbestos in Toowoomba.

What happens on a job

We prepare the Asbestos Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) before work starts. We hold $20 million public liability insurance. When the job is done, you get a clearance certificate. The inspection behind it is done by an independent assessor or competent person, not by us.

Queensland guidance also says to talk to your neighbours about the work. In a tight suburban street, that conversation is worth having early.

Rules change. Check the current rules at asbestos.qld.gov.au.

Phone us

We are open Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 5pm. Call (07) 3185 2323 and tell us your suburb and what you think the material is.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you travel to every Toowoomba suburb?

Yes. We are based in East Toowoomba and work across the city. If you are not sure whether we cover your street, give us a call.

My house is in Newtown and was built in the 1960s. Does it have asbestos?

It might. Homes built before 1990 are likely to contain some. You cannot tell by looking, so a sample tested by an accredited lab is the only way to know.

Do heritage homes need anything extra?

Heritage listing can bring extra council requirements for building work. Ask the council before you plan any change, and test for asbestos first so you know what you are dealing with.

Can I just drop asbestos at the tip myself?

Only in the way the council allows. Toowoomba Regional Council takes wrapped domestic asbestos at Wellcamp, and you should call 131 872 first. Commercial loads are not accepted there.
