Asbestos removal in Oakey

Class B licensed asbestos removal and testing for Oakey homes and properties, about 29 km from East Toowoomba. Call (07) 3185 2323 to book.

We offer asbestos removal in Oakey and the surrounding district. Oakey is about 29 km by road from our base at 1 Margaret St, East Toowoomba, and the drive takes roughly half an hour.

About Oakey

Oakey is a rural town of about 4,800 people, north-west of Toowoomba. It has been part of the Toowoomba Regional Council area since 2008. The town is also known for its air force history. A Royal Australian Air Force depot was set up there in the Second World War, and the Museum of Army Aviation is at Oakey Airport.

We do not have a confirmed picture of how old the houses and sheds in Oakey are. So we apply the same rule that Queensland uses everywhere. Buildings from before 1990 are likely to contain some asbestos, and you cannot tell by looking.

Property jobs

A rural-style property can have a home, a shed, a garage, fencing and older outbuildings, and each can use asbestos cement sheeting. We can help with:

  • Asbestos removal from roofs, walls, eaves and fences.
  • Sheds and outbuildings that are coming down. See shed and outbuilding demolition.
  • Samples taken and sent to a lab, so you know what you are dealing with.
  • Wrapping, transport and disposal of the waste.

Our contractors are Class B licensed, which covers non-friable (bonded) asbestos only. If material is crumbling or has been through a fire, a Class A licensed removalist is needed. Call us and we will explain the options.

Testing before you start

If you are not sure what a material is, asbestos testing is the first step. A lab examines the sample under a microscope. Looking at a sheet will not tell you, and neither will its age alone.

For bigger jobs, such as gutting an older building, strip outs and demolition covers how the asbestos is removed before other trades start. Queensland rules expect asbestos to come out before demolition begins, so far as is reasonably practicable.

Storm damage

If a storm has broken an asbestos roof or fence, keep people away and keep the debris wet. Do not use a water blaster on it, because homeowners can be fined up to $10,000. Our guide to storm and hail damaged asbestos explains the steps in order.

Disposal from Oakey

We could not confirm that any facility in Oakey takes asbestos. The nearest confirmed council option is the Greater Toowoomba Waste Management Facility, 270 O'Mara Road, Wellcamp. It accepts domestic asbestos only, up to 175 kg a visit, and no commercial loads. Call 131 872 first.

That is a long trip with a trailer of sheeting. If you book us, we take the waste away and dispose of it properly. See our overview of asbestos disposal.

Our paperwork

Before work starts we prepare the Asbestos Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS). We carry $20 million public liability insurance. At the end you receive a clearance certificate. The clearance inspection is done by an independent assessor or competent person, not by us.

Rules change. Check the current rules at asbestos.qld.gov.au.
